“Release is a full-length album courtesy of Anna Randt and Papi Gaba, an Amsterdam-based duo of experimental producers whose work combines industrial techno’s percussive elements with found objects, live instrumentation and a strange and inspiring approach to noise. Kill Your Darlings took shape over many months in their Amsterdam Noord studio, where sessions took a playful approach to free-form improvisation and recording, which was later reined into its final form in the editing room. These sessions were very much guided by the ethos that gives this work its title, a disciplined approach to shaping chaos. The album was built from recordings of detuned guitars, Korg MS2000, drums, and foley, all glued together by an Akai 4000-DS tape machine playing distorted tape loops. This process of playing around with recordings of their own voices and found objects created an unexpected dialectic shaped by a myriad colours of distortion, an exploration which continues in their dazzling live performances.”
